US and China need to declare peace in Biden-Xi Jinping meeting — political scientist Bobyrenko
Political scientist and expert at the Bureau of Analysis and Policy, Viktor Bobyrenko, says that Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States will confirm China's peace initiative
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"I would not be too optimistic. For the hundredth time, China will promise and say that they have a very clear plan on how to act, and this plan is a ceasefire here and now. That is, in fact, China will stress its peace initiative. This is only to preserve the status quo - first come, first served. China may even propose peacekeeping missions, UN troops, and other things, but this is not the agenda we need," the political scientist said.
He emphasized that it is important for Ukraine that Xi promised Biden not to provide Russia with missiles and other assistance.
"In general, the agenda of the talks between China and the United States is important, so that when Xi leaves, Biden can shake a piece of paper and say: 'We are keeping the peace.’ So that at the briefing they come out and say that there will be no military conflict between the United States and China. And then humanity will exhale and the United States will be able to focus on helping Ukraine," Bobyrenko emphasized.
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the United States on Wednesday, November 15, to meet with US President Joe Biden, to improve relations between the countries after a period of tension, and to discuss the conflict in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine.
