Trump's team proposals for ending Ukraine war are "not interesting", Russia's UN envoy says
Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, stated that the team of elected U.S. President Donald Trump had not presented any proposals regarding the end of the war in Ukraine that would be of interest to Russia
He said this in an interview with Russian propagandists, the Moscow Times report.
"These are some unformed, unclear signals about readiness for something. We often hear the word "freezing the conflict". President [of the Russian Federation Vladimir] Putin last said clearly and distinctly on December 19, under what conditions we are ready to talk about not freezing, but ending this conflict... But so far, nothing in the signals of the new American administration indicates that this is something that we will be interested in," the diplomat said.
According to Nebenzya, recently the Ukrainian side has also allegedly been issuing "signals about some agreements", but they cannot be taken seriously.
"The question is, when [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy finally manages to want to sit down at the negotiating table, on which front will this happen? What happens next, the conditions will be worse for him, he was told about this a long time ago. That's up to him," said the Russian permanent representative to the UN.
- On December 13, 2024, Trump stated that he was "categorically against" long-range strikes on Russian territory, calling it an escalation of the war. Meanwhile, White House communications adviser John Kirby said that the U.S. aims to help Ukraine create better conditions for potential negotiations. "So that, if and when talks happen, President Zelenskyy is in the best possible position, with as many levers of influence as possible and the best chance for success on the battlefield," said Kirby.
