Ukrainian men in Poland receive fake draft notices: Ukraine, Poland respond
Ukrainian men in Poland have been receiving fake military summons for service in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Ukrainian Embassy and Polish government denounced the forgeries and denied involvement
This was reported on the website of the Polish Government's Office for Foreigners and in a statement from the Ukrainian Embassy in Poland.
"In connection with the information about a fraudulent letter sent to a Ukrainian citizen, the Office for Foreigners clarifies that it is not the author of summonses for military service," the Polish government stated, commenting on a letter allegedly issued by the Office, urging a Ukrainian citizen to undergo military service under threat of legal liability and extradition.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Poland also emphasized that claims about summonses for military service for Ukrainians in Poland are false and that the "notices" are forgeries.
"We inform you that no summonses or notifications for conscripts, military personnel, or reservists are being sent to Ukrainian citizens on the territory of the Republic of Poland," the statement reads.
At the same time, the embassy added that Ukrainians abroad can voluntarily join the ranks of the Ukrainian Legion.
