The strike was reported by Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.

According to preliminary information, Russian forces used a ballistic missile. The explosion occurred around 11:40 a.m.

"Four people have died. Right now, 17 people are injured, five of whom have been hospitalized," Syniehubov said.

Later, the number of injured rose to 20. Another person remains trapped under the rubble.

Syniehubov specified that the missile hit the central part of the city. Administrative buildings were partially destroyed, and a five-story residential building was damaged.

As of 6:30 p.m., the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office reported that three men aged 43, 61, and 68 and two sisters aged 19 and 18 were killed in the Russian strike. The 19-year-old victim was 15 weeks pregnant.

Fifty-two people were injured and suffered acute stress reactions, including 43 women, 6 men and three children.

"Anhelina and Oleksandra – two sisters – both died on the spot. The girls were 18 and 19 years old. The elder sister, Angelina, was pregnant. She had come with her sister and mother-in-law to the passport office to process documents. The driver who brought them also died along with the girls. Anhelina's mother-in-law survived – she first saw black smoke and fire, and then found her loved ones," wrote Serhii Bolvinov, head of the Investigative Department of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, on Facebook.

As of 12:48 a.m., Syniehubov reported that 24 people had been wounded, including a 15-year-old girl who sustained a shrapnel injury and is in moderate condition.

"Three more individuals are undergoing surgery, with doctors providing all necessary medical assistance," he added.

The head of the Regional Military Administration clarified that the injured included two women and two men, with experts currently working to identify them.

By 1:16 p.m., Oleh Syniehubov announced that the death toll had risen to five after rescuers recovered another body, which is now being identified.

As of 1:48 p.m., Syniehubov reported that 38 people were injured, including a 15-year-old girl who sustained a shrapnel wound and is in moderate condition. Seven people were hospitalized. Later, the State Emergency Service updated the number of injured to 43.

By around 2:15 p.m., search and rescue operations were completed.

As of 3:24 p.m., reports indicated that 50 people were injured, including three children.

"A 44-year-old man, a 69-year-old man, two women, and one man were killed as a result of the missile strike, preliminarily identified as an Iskander-type, and their identities are being established," wrote Syniehubov.

He added that most of the victims were employees of the tax office, the Service for Children, the State Executive Service, a medical college, and other institutions.

At 3:52 p.m., he reported that the number of injured had risen to 55.

"Among them are a 6-year-old boy and girls aged 14 and 16. The 14-year-old girl is in serious condition. The boy and the 16-year-old girl are in moderate condition," Syniehubov stated.

At 4:18 p.m., he wrote: "The identities of the women killed in the shelling have been confirmed. They were 18 and 19 years old, and one of them was pregnant."

On the morning of February 5, the number of victims increased to 59.

Zelenskyy's response

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russia’s attack on Izyum, noting that part of the city council building had been destroyed.

"It is impossible to accept such cruelty. We must increase pressure on Russia—through military force, sanctions, and diplomacy—to stop terror and protect lives," he stated.

  • Sumy and Cherkasy regions also came under Russian attack at night. In Kyiv, debris from a drone fell on an unfinished high-rise building. Three enterprises caught fire in the Cherkasy region.
