Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Oksana Markarova, stated this in an interview with Suspilne.
She emphasized that during the war, Kyiv would not be able to ensure full access to voting and candidacy.
"When this issue was theoretically discussed in 2023-24, our position was that hostilities must end first. During the war, we cannot guarantee full access to voting and candidacy," Markarova said.
- On February 1, it was reported that the United States wants Ukraine to hold elections, possibly by the end of the year, especially if Kyiv can negotiate a truce with Russia in the coming months.
- "Most democratic countries hold elections during war. I think this is important. I think it is good for democracy. This is the beauty of a strong democracy—you potentially have more than one person," explained Donald Trump's special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg.
