Ukraine receives over 50,000 requests from Russians about missing soldiers
Russians have submitted requests about over 50,000 missing Russian soldiers to the Ukrainian "I Want to Find" project
This was shared by Bohdan Okhrimenko, Head of the Secretariat of the Coordination Headquarters, in an interview with ArmyInform.
According to him, initially, relatives of missing Russian soldiers began contacting the "I Want to Live" hotline.
"We first set up a separate hotline for this purpose, but then we realized that it was a large-scale project. Today, we can state that the number of missing individuals for whom we have received inquiries exceeds 50,000 Russians. And these are just those who are not afraid to reach out to us," Okhrimenko explained.
The Head of the Secretariat noted that, according to Ukrainian estimates, the total number of missing in Russia exceeds 100,000.
"Many missing Russians are scattered across our fields, and their remains are carried off by dogs. Identifying them is of no interest to Russia," he added.
Okhrimenko also emphasized that the Russian State Duma recently announced a figure of 48,000 missing Russian soldiers. However, the individual who held the hearing "said not to disclose this information further to anyone."
"Thanks to the 'I Want to Find' project, we can now present data to the global community showing how Russia deals with its citizens. They are not interested in recognizing them as deceased because that would require providing financial support to their families. It’s more convenient for them to consider the soldiers missing. Commanders continue to receive financial allowances for these soldiers, while the families receive nothing," concluded the Head of the Secretariat.
- At the beginning of 2024, Ukraine launched the "I Want to Find" center to assist citizens of the aggressor country in locating relatives with whom they lost contact.
