Italy's Bologna hosts protest against Russian disinformation, propaganda
On February 2, Bologna hosted a large rally against Russian propaganda and disinformation, organized by activists from across Italy, including the Ukrainian community
Channel 24 reports that protesters highlighted the impact of Russian disinformation on European politics and public opinion, urging stronger action against propaganda and greater support for independent media. They called on EU nations to block disinformation sources and hold those spreading fake news accountable.
A Ukrainian community representative stressed that Russian propaganda is not just misinformation but a large-scale information war aimed at justifying aggression, creating doubt, and undermining support for Ukraine. She emphasized that disinformation spreads through pro-Russian media, social platforms, and politicians who echo Kremlin narratives. "In Italy, for instance, the call for 'peace at any cost' often implies Ukraine's surrender," she noted.
The rally aimed to raise awareness of Russian disinformation's dangers. Participants urged the public to verify information, support Ukraine, and push European governments to counter propaganda effectively. "We need stronger measures to block fake news sources and ensure Ukraine’s voice is heard," one protester stated, emphasizing the ongoing information war's serious consequences.
- Ukraine and Italy discussed the possibility of using revenues from frozen Russian assets to purchase Italian-made air defense systems and ammunition.
