Ukraine-U.S. cooperation goes beyond natural resources for mutual benefit — FM Sybiha

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha says that potential cooperation with the United States is not limited to natural resources, mentioning areas such as the supply of liquefied natural gas to Europe, the use of frozen Russian assets, and reconstruction

He made this statement at a joint press conference with his British counterpart, David Lammy, as reported by Ukrinform.

Sybiha emphasized that President Zelenskyy’s Victory Plan includes a provision allowing Ukraine’s partners to invest in the joint development of mineral resources. According to him, this is a shared interest and an example of implementing the concept of “peace through strength.”

“I also want to emphasize that the range of shared interests and mutually beneficial cooperation is not limited to these strategic resources. For example, we see huge potential, especially after the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine, in the possibility of purchasing LNG from the United States,” the minister added.

The Foreign Minister also highlighted that Ukraine has extremely powerful underground gas storage facilities and mentioned the shared interest and opportunities for U.S. businesses in Ukraine’s reconstruction and the use of frozen Russian assets.

“There is also interest in using them, including for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine’s needs,” Sybiha noted.

Exchange of Ukrainian rare earth elements for U.S. aid: what is known

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he wanted to negotiate with Ukraine regarding the exchange of rare earth elements for American aid. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz condemned the U.S. leader’s proposal.

Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak suggested that Trump’s statement about exchanging Ukrainian rare earth elements for aid was made primarily for a domestic U.S. audience.

Lieutenant Colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Deputy Commander of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, Maksym Zhorin, also shared his opinion. The military officer stressed the importance of not allowing “all resources to be completely depleted.”

On February 4, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy assured that Ukraine remains open to American investments.
