Weapons, "Marshall Plan", tribunal over the Russian Federation: MEPs from the United for Ukraine group named 6 priority steps in support of Ukraine
Parliamentarians from the informal association United for Ukraine during their visit to Kyiv signed the Declaration of Unity for European Ukraine and identified six priority areas of activity
The document ended up at the disposal of European Truth.
It bears the signatures of former Prime Minister of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Parliamentarians named six priority areas of work:
- provide military support to Ukraine based on the specific needs of the Armed Forces;
- to provide humanitarian aid for Ukrainians forced to leave their homes because of the war. To this end, it is proposed that the EU establish an international coordination mechanism through which such assistance will flow from member countries and around the world;
- sanctions pressure on Russia, which will be so powerful that the Kremlin is forced to end the war, including an energy embargo in order not to finance Putin's war machine. The deputies note that it will be possible to lift the sanctions only after "the last invader leaves the Ukrainian land";
- the "Marshall plan" for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, which includes large-scale contributions from the EU, individual countries and reparations from the Russian Federation, which can be provided at the expense of confiscated Russian assets;
- integration of Ukraine into the EU. The deputies call for urgently granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country and moving to the first stage of integration into the single market of the European Union as soon as possible;
- an international tribunal over the Russian Federation for committed military and aggressive war.
The European deputies epmhasized that the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine is a war against the entire democratic world, and the crimes of the Russian military in Bucha indicate that the regime in the Kremlin is in fact no different from the Nazi one and is ready for the genocide of Ukrainians.
"We are committed to doing everything we can to support the defense of Ukraine, to force Russia to stop its criminal actions and to ensure the speedy recovery of Ukraine after the war. We are committed to ensuring justice for Ukraine and accountability for those responsible for their crimes. We are committed to promoting the rapid entry of Ukraine into the European Union. Ukrainians are fighting for their dream - to be together with other Europeans in the EU family. And our common moral obligation is to fight together to make this dream come true", the declaration says.
"Peace in Europe can only be guaranteed if those responsible for this criminal aggression and barbaric war crimes in Ukraine are brought to justice, including Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko. This is the only way to ensure justice and support the desire of the Russian people to live in a democratic country", MPs are convinced.
The informal association United for Ukraine ("Together for Ukraine") was established to coordinate efforts to support Ukraine in connection with Russian armed aggression.
