Russian troops struggle to secure foothold on Oskil's right bank — Ukrainian officer
Reserve Major of the National Guard and veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Oleksiy Hetman, discussed the activities of Russian troops along the Oskil River bank and assessed their prospects of crossing it
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"Crossing the Oskil will be extremely difficult for them. They are still trying to establish a foothold on the left bank of the Oskil River, so they can launch offensive actions and create a foothold on the right bank. The right bank holds the dominant heights; the terrain there allowed us to work very effectively. Serious fortifications have been built, considering the terrain. There is artillery, units are in place, and wired communication has been established to avoid interference from electronic warfare. In short, positions are prepared to repel any attacks," he said.
Oleksiy Hetman believes that Russian forces will not be able to cross the Oskil River.
"The Russians understand this very well, which is why they are trying to expand their foothold on the left bank to attempt an attack. So, their chances of crossing the Oskil River — well, chances may exist in any case, but so far, as at least my friends who are there say, the Russians have little chance of making any breakthrough. There is no talk of a breakthrough at all; even establishing a foothold on the right bank of the Oskil River will be practically impossible," said the reserve major of the National Guard.
- On December 3, Russian forces attempted to seize and hold a bridgehead on the right bank of the Oskil River in the Kharkiv region. The Ukrainian Defense Forces pushed them back.
