How Trump could stop war in Ukraine in 24 hours: MP Merezhko explains
The only real security guarantee for Ukraine is joining NATO. That would put an end to Russian aggression
Oleksandr Merezhko, head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation, said this, according to Espreso correspondent Kateryna Halko.
He commented on security guarantees as an alternative to NATO membership.
"I am convinced that the only real guarantee of our security is joining NATO," said the MP.
In his opinion, Ukraine's admission to NATO is how the elected U.S. President Donald "Trump could fulfill his promise to resolve this situation within 24 hours."
Merezhko emphasized that this would stop Russian aggression because "Putin is genuinely afraid of NATO."
"But the question is how to convince Trump," noted the MP.
In his view, constant contact with the newly elected U.S. president, his team, and his supporters is necessary.
"We must take into account that America is a democratic country, and much depends on voters... If we manage to convince Trump's voters, whom he relies on as a politician, that is also an influential force. I see that such work is being done," Merezhko said.
"On the eve of the inauguration, it may be more challenging to communicate with Trump's team, but after the inauguration, it will become easier, and I hope that such communication will intensify," he added.
- Earlier, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said that he could force Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to conclude a peace deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin within 24 hours.
