On January 7, the anonymous Telegram channel Silent Crow reported a hack of the Rosregister, claiming the theft of the Unified State Register of Real Estate (USRE) database, which allegedly contains 2 billion records
The Agency outlet reported the information.
Journalists from the Russian edition analyzed the data published by the anonymous Telegram channel and concluded that at least some of the stolen information appears to be authentic.
“The Silent Crow channel was created on December 25, with its sole post about the hack published on January 7. In the post, the hackers claimed the attack was their way of congratulating Russians on the New Year,” the post states.
According to the post, the Rosregister database, which stored all personal information on every Russian citizen, was hacked and uploaded. Meanwhile, the authors of the anonymous channel promised that “the next ‘Christmas present’ is just around the corner.”
A few hours later, Rosregister said it did not confirm the hacking: “We are currently conducting additional checks of the information published in a number of Telegram channels.”
