Serhiy Zgurets, military expert and CEO of the media and consulting company Defense Express, spoke about Ukraine’s support prospects at the upcoming Ramstein meeting

He shared his thoughts in an interview on Espreso TV.

“The Ramstein meetings began at the start of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Now, they unite 50 countries and aim to provide military and military-technical support to Ukraine,” Zgurets reminded.

According to Zgurets, the next Ramstein meeting will focus on Ukraine's current needs and strategies through 2027, which include developing roadmaps in several key areas: armored vehicles, artillery, ammunition, and information support. He also pointed out that these meetings are happening at a time of significant changes within NATO.

“This month, a new NATO command will begin operations, responsible for assisting Ukraine and training its military. This structure, established by the NATO summit decision, could protect against any unexpected actions by the new President Trump, should he decide to reduce U.S. military assistance,” Zgurets explained.

Zgurets also mentioned that all key issues related to Ukraine’s support will now be handled by the new NATO command in Wiesbaden. The Ramstein format will remain in place, but it will shift more towards a political and communication-driven approach.

“The Americans say the Ramstein format will continue to guide interactions with Ukraine and partners, but organizationally, we are gradually moving to a new format for working with our Western partners. All the roadmaps to be discussed at the Ramstein meeting will serve as a guide for actions carried out through the NATO command in Wiesbaden. This command is quite powerful, with 700 personnel representing 10 NATO countries, and our contacts are expanding rapidly,” Zgurets concluded.

  • On Thursday, January 9, the 25th anniversary meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, known as the Ramstein format, will take place at the Ramstein air base in Germany.
