Trump rules out pre-inauguration meeting with Putin
On Tuesday, January 7, U.S. president-elect Donald Trump said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin seeks to meet with him
Donald Trump said this at a press conference at the Mar-a-Lago estate, CNN reports.
According to the U.S. president-elect, the situation in Russia's war against Ukraine has become “much more complicated.” Trump also expressed concerns about the risks of escalation, particularly criticizing Joe Biden's handling of the negotiations.
When asked about a potential meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Trump stated that he had no intention of meeting with him before the inauguration.
“Well, I can’t tell you that (regarding plans for a meeting - ed.), but I know that Putin would like to meet. I don’t think it’s appropriate that I meet until after the 20th... That’s a war that should have never happened. I guarantee you, if I were president, that war would have never happened,” the statement reads.
