111 clashes reported on Russian-Ukrainian front, mostly in Pokrovsk, Kurakhove sectors

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this as of 4:00 p.m. on January 8.

Today, the settlements of Osoiivka, Ponomarenky, Tymonovychi, Velyka Pysarivka, Huta-Studenetska, and Khodyne in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions came under artillery fire.

Frontline situation

In the Kharkiv sector, Russian forces stormed the Ukrainian troops’ defensive lines four times. Fighting is currently underway in the area of Vovchansk.

In the Kupyansk sector, the Russian army actively attacked Ukrainian positions eight times in the areas of Holubivka, Zahryzove, and in the direction of Petropavlivka. Six hostile attacks are still ongoing.

In the Lyman sector, the invading army conducted nine attacks on Ukrainian positions near Nadiia, Kopanky, Novoiehorivka, Ivanivka, and Terny. Six of the attacks ended, and three are still ongoing.

In the Siversk sector, Russia made two attempts to attack the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ positions near Bilohorivka during the day. The attacks were repelled, the General Staff noted.

In the Kramatorsk sector, the Russians carried out airstrikes on Vasiukivka, Pryvillia, and Nykiforivka, dropping seven guided bombs.

In the Toretsk sector, Russia concentrated its offensive efforts in the areas of Toretsk and Diliivka, where five firefights took place, and combat is ongoing.

In the Pokrovsk sector, the invading Russian forces have already made 26 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of Myroliubivka, Baranivka, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Zelene, Zvirove, Novyi Trud, Kotlyne, and Nadiivka. The Defense Forces have so far repelled 21 enemy attacks, and five firefights are ongoing.

In the Kurakhove sector, fighting continues near Dachne, Kurakhove, Shevchenko, Petropavlivka, Slovianka, and Yasenove. According to the updated information, 18 out of 25 attacks have been repelled so far.

In the Vremivka sector, the Russian army stormed the Ukrainian positions ten times near Novosilka, Kostiantynopolske, Yantarne, and in the direction of Kostiantynopol. Two firefights are currently underway.

In the Orikhiv sector, the Russians launched an airstrike with unguided missiles on Kamianske.

Ukrainian defenders repelled 16 enemy attacks in the Kursk region today, and six engagements are ongoing.

Russia did not conduct active operations in other areas, the General Staff added.

• On the Russian-Ukrainian front, 176 combat engagements were registered on January 7. The situation was the most tense in the Pokrovsk and Kursk sectors.
