Ukrainian army repels 41 assaults near Pokrovsk and 32 near Kursk amid 176 clashes on Jan. 7

176 combat clashes took place on the Russian-Ukrainian front on January 7. The situation is the hottest in the Pokrovsk and Kursk directions

Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff reported the information as of 8:00 a.m. on January 8. 

Yesterday, Russian troops carried out 45 air strikes on Ukrainian positions and settlements, dropped 93 guided bombs, and used 2,100 kamikaze drones. They also carried out about 5,000 artillery attacks, including 139 from multiple launch rocket systems.

 Eleven settlements in the Donetsk region were hit by Russian air strikes.

Over the past day, the Ukrainian Defense Forces' missile troops and artillery hit eight areas of Russian troops, weapons and military equipment concentration and a UAV control center.

Frontline update

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian troops tried to advance four times in the area of Vovchansk and Tykhe in vain.

In the Kupyansk direction, three Russian attacks took place over the past day. The Ukrainian Defense Forces fought off a  Russian assault near Topoli, Holubivka and Petropavlivka.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked 14 times. They tried to advance near Novoserhiivka, Nadiia, Pershotravneve, Cherneshchyna, Makiivka, Zarichne, Terny and Ivanivka.

In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian troops countered seven Russian attacks near Bilohorivka.

In the Kramatorsk direction, Russian troops made seven attacks on Ukrainian troops' positions near Vasiukivka, Bondarne, Chasiv Yar, Stupochky and Bila Hora.

In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces attacked Toretsk nine times yesterday, in some cases with the support of aviation.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian troops stopped 41Russian attacks near Tarasivka, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Sukhyi Yar, Zelene, Novyi Trud, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Novovasylivka and Nadiivka.

In the Kurakhove direction, Ukrainian forces beat back 25 attacks near Sribne, Slovianka, Petropavlivka, Andriivka, Kurakhove and Dachne over the past day.

In the Vremivka direction, Russian forces conducted 21 assaults on the Ukrainian positions near Yantarne, Kostiantynopolske, Uspenivka, Kostiantynopil, Novosilka and Pryvilne. In addition, they actively used attack and bombing aircraft against the settlements and Ukrainian troops' positions.

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled two Russian attacks.

In the Orikhiv and Huliaipole directions, the occupying Russian forces did not conduct any active operations yesterday.

On the border with Belarus, no signs of Russian offensive groups were detected.

The operation in the Kursk region continues, 32 combat clashes took place yesterday, Russian artillery fired 146 times at settlements and Ukrainian troops' positions, including six times from multiple rocket launchers.

  • Over the past day, Ukrainian Defense Forces eliminated 1,660 Russian troops and a number of vehicles and weapons.
