192 clashes at frontline: Ukrainian army repels 42 attacks near Pokrovsk, 48 in Kursk

On January 8, 192 clashes were recorded on the Russian-Ukrainian front. Ukrainian defenders repelled 42 assaults near Pokrovsk and 48 attacks in the Kursk region

Ukraine's General Staff reported the update as of 8:00 am. 

“According to the updated information, yesterday the Russian aggressor carried out 35 air strikes on Ukrainian positions and settlements, dropping 62 guided bombs. In addition, it carried out more than 5,000 attacks, including 144 with multiple launch rocket systems and used 2,333 kamikaze drones,” the General Staff noted.

The report added that over the past day, the Ukrainian army's missile forces and artillery hit 11 areas of Russian troops, weapons and military equipment concentration, a command post, a UAV control post, two warehouses and seven other important military targets.

Frontline update

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian troops stormed the Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk four times.

In the Kupyansk direction, 12 attacks took place over the day. Ukrainian defense forces repelled Russian assaults near Holubivka, Zahryzove and in the direction of Petropavlivka.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked 17 times. They tried to break into the Ukrainian defense near Nadiia, Kopanky, Novoiehorivka, Ivanivka and Terny.

In the Siversk direction, Russian forces made two attempts to attack the Ukrainian positions near Bilohorivka, but were rebuffed.   

In the Kramatorsk direction, Russian troops attacked three times near Bila Hora.

In the Toretsk direction, Russian troops launched six attacks near Toretsk and Dyliivka.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 42 Russian assaults near the settlements of Myroliubivka, Baranivka, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Zelene, Zvirove, Novyi Trud, Kotlyne and Nadiivka.

In the Kurakhove direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces fought off 38 Russian attacks.Russian troops have been most actively attempting to advance near Dachne, Kurakhove, Shevchenko, Petropavlivka, Slovyanka, and Yasenove.

In the Vremivka direction, Russian forces launched 16 attacks on the Ukrainian positions near Novosilka, Kostiantynopolske, Yantarne and in the direction of Kostiantynopol.

In the Prydnprovskyi direction, the Ukrainian defense forces are making efforts to prevent Russia from advancing deep into Ukrainian territory, successfully repelling three Russian assaults.

In the Kursk region, Ukrainian defenders beat back 48 Russian attacks, the fighting continues.

Russia did not conduct active operations in other directions yesterday.

On the border with Belarus, no signs of Russian offensive groups were detected.

  • Over the past day, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have eliminated 1,430 Russian servicemen and destroyed several vehicles and pieces of military equipment along the Russian-Ukrainian frontline.
