"The actions of invaders are aimed at complicating the liberation of the cities for the Armed Forces of Ukraine": Denisova that the Russians are forcing children to go to school on the verge of fighting
In the temporarily occupied territories, the Russian military obliges children to start school
This was reported by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Lyudmyla Denisova on Facebook.
"During the monitoring of the social media of the occupying authorities, information was found that in the temporarily occupied city of Volnovakha, Donetsk region, since April 11, 2022, Russian invaders have been forcing children to go to educational institutions", she wrote.
According to her, such actions are likely to complicate the operation for the upcoming liberation of the city by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and may lead to provocations with victims in order to discredit and accuse the Ukrainian side.
"In this case, the children will actually become hostages and human shields for the troops of the Russian aggressor", Denisova adds.
She reports that such actions violate article 38 of the UN Convention, which states that states parties to a conflict are obliged to take all possible measures to ensure the protection of children affected by armed conflict.
It also threatens to violate the right to life of children, guaranteed by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 1949 Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
"I appeal to the UN Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violations during the Russian military invasion of Ukraine and the expert mission created by the OSCE participating States in accordance with the Moscow Mechanism to take into account these facts of war crimes and violations of the rights of children of the Russian Federation in Ukraine", wrote the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on human rights.
