Russia is running a "reckless" sabotage campaign in Europe and escalating nuclear threats to deter support for Ukraine, says UK's foreign spy chief

Reuters reported the information.

Richard Moore, the head of Britain's Secret Intelligence Service known as MI6, said in a speech in Paris on Friday that were Putin to succeed in reducing Ukraine to a vassal state, he would not stop there.

"Our security - British, French, European and transatlantic- will be jeopardised. We have recently uncovered a staggeringly reckless campaign of Russian sabotage in Europe, even as Putin and his acolytes resort to nuclear sabre-rattling to sow fear about the consequences of aiding Ukraine,” he said.

He stated that the cost of supporting Ukraine was well known, but added: "The cost of not doing so would be infinitely higher. If Putin succeeds China would weigh the implications, North Korea would be emboldened and Iran would become still more dangerous."

According to Reuters, Moore's speech aimed to rally European allies and skeptics in Trump's incoming U.S. administration on Ukraine's importance, joining other western intelligence chiefs in warning about rising Russian sabotage.

NATO and Western intelligence services have stated that Russia is behind an increasing number of hostile actions across the Euro-Atlantic area, including cyberattacks and Moscow-linked arson, all of which Russia denies.

The UK's domestic spy chief said last month that Russia's GRU military intelligence aimed to cause "mayhem" across Britain and Europe. U.S. intelligence sources told Reuters this week that Russia is likely to expand its sabotage campaign against European targets to pressure the West over its support for Kyiv.

Moore added that cooperation between Britain and the United States had made their societies safer and that this would continue.

"I worked successfully with the first Trump administration to advance our shared security and look forward to doing so again," he said.
