Corruption in Russia's MoD will help Ukraine to hit ammo arsenals: military observer on Tver region attack
Military observer Denys Popovych explains how corruption in the Russian Defense Ministry contributed to the destruction of a warehouse with guided bombs and North Korean missiles in the Tver region
He said this on Espreso TV.
"Corruption in the Russian Defense Ministry obviously helps us to hit such arsenals. And not only arsenals, but also other objects where our capabilities will reach, including drones and possibly missiles in the future," Popovych said.
The military observer suggested why the Russian ammunition depot in the Tver region was not covered.
"This arsenal was opened in 2018 by Dmitry Bulgakov, a former deputy defense minister of the Russian Federation, who is currently under investigation in Russia for corruption and the decay of the Ministry of Defense. During the opening of these warehouses, Bulgakov noted that it was a very modern facility, with concrete storage facilities for ammunition. He claimed that these storage facilities could even withstand a nuclear explosion. However, today satellite images have emerged showing that there were no concrete structures or shelters there. The ammunition was stored in the open. One can guess where the money that could have been spent on building shelters went. I think this is in line with the criminal cases against Bulgakov. But it was a sin not to hit such an object. As a result, 30,000 tons of ammunition flew into the air," Popovych said.
- On the night of September 18, a fire and detonation started at an ammunition depot in Toropets, Tver region, as a result of a drone attack. A partial evacuation was announced in the region.
