Russian army focuses on Pokrovsk, Kurakhove sectors - Ukraine’s General Staff

Since the start of January 7, 128 clashes have occurred at the front. Russian forces are focusing their efforts on the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove sectors

Ukrainian border towns, including Kucherivka, Slavhorod, and Bachivsk in the Sumy region, as well as Semenivka and Halahanivka in the Chernihiv region, have been shelled by Russian artillery.

Frontline situation

In the Kharkiv sector, Ukrainian forces repelled three Russian attacks near Tykhe. One battle is still ongoing.

In the Kupyansk sector, Russian troops attempted to advance near Holubivka and Petropavlivka three times today.

In the Lyman sector, the Russian army launched nine attacks near Novoserhiivka, Nadiia, Pershotravneve, Cherneshchyna, Makiivka, Zarichne, Ivanivka, and Terny. Three battles are still ongoing.

In the Siversk sector, Russian forces attacked five times near Bilohorivka today, with one clash still ongoing.

In the Kramatorsk sector, Ukrainian forces repelled six attacks near Vasiukivka, Bondarne, Chasiv Yar, and Stupochky. Five battles are still ongoing.

In the Toretsk sector, the Russian army attempted to advance three times near Toretsk. One battle is still ongoing.

With air support in the Pokrovsk sector, Russian forces launched 28 attacks. Ukrainian forces repelled assaults near Tarasivka, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Sukhyi Yar, Zelene, Novyi Trud, and Pokrovsk. Five clashes are still ongoing.

Heavy fighting is taking place in the Kurakhove sector. Ukrainian defenders repelled 14 Russian attacks near Sribne, Andriivka, Kurakhove, and Dachne.

In the Vremivka sector, the Russian army attacked Ukrainian positions 14 times near Yantarne, Kostiantynopilske, Novosilka, and Pryvilne. Four battles are still taking place.

In the Prydniprovskyi sector, Ukrainian forces repelled two Russian attacks.

In the Kursk region, Ukrainian defenders repelled 27 attacks. The Russian army also launched six airstrikes, dropped 17 guided bombs, and fired 146 artillery shells, including six from multiple rocket launchers.

No active Russian operations were reported in the Huliaipole and Orikhiv sectors.

Other areas saw no major changes.

  • Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the invading Russian army has lost 800,000 of its soldiers at the front.
