Putin wants to drag out war, but it's about ending it as soon as possible – Russian dissident Yakovenko
Igor Yakovenko, a sociologist and journalist recognized as a foreign agent in Russia, says that it is in Putin's interest to protract the war
He said this on Espreso TV.
"The war is still being waged asymmetrically. Russia attacks Ukrainian peaceful cities and kills civilians. Ukraine, on rare occasions, responds by hitting military targets and destroying Russian military targets. This is the fundamental difference, and not only this. The main difference is that the war is mainly taking place on the territory of Ukraine, not on the territory of Russia. Therefore, when we say that this war is clearly being dragged out, it is being dragged out in Putin's interests, and this is quite obvious. Ukraine is becoming the main victim, despite the fact that there is an offensive. The offensive is quite successful, but still the war continues to be waged on the territory of Ukraine, Ukrainian civilians are being killed, and Ukraine's economy is being destroyed," Yakovenko emphasized.
According to the Russian dissident, it is about supplying weapons to Ukraine and the chance of ending the war as soon as possible.
"Not to continue it for a long time, not to continue it for several years, but to end it at least next year, and this is a matter of Ukraine's survival. Undoubtedly, the political will of the Ukrainian leadership, the will of the people of Ukraine and the Armed Forces is sufficient to continue this war. But it is a question of how much resources, both material and human, will be available," Yakovenko emphasized.
