The Foreign Ministry called on international organizations to help forcibly deported Ukrainians leave Russia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on international organizations to facilitate the speedy removal of Ukrainians deported to the Russian Federation from the aggressor state to Ukraine or democratic states
This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The ministry emphasized that Russia is committing actions that cannot be interpreted otherwise than as gross violations of international norms and standards of human rights and international humanitarian law.
"In front of the eyes of the whole world, even before February 24, 2022, the Russian occupation troops, under the pretext of "evacuation", began to evacuate thousands of citizens of Ukraine, who, in Stalin's traditions, are placed in camps with the prospect of moving to remote depressive regions of Russia. At the same time, the possibilities of communication with our fellow citizens are limited to the maximum", the statement said.
It is noted that according to Art. 49 of the Geneva Convention (IV) for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, 1949 and art. 85 of the Additional Protocol (I) to the 1977 Convention, it is prohibited to carry out forced resettlement or deportation of persons from the occupied territory to the occupying state.
"Ukraine calls on the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the Secretary General of the International Organization for Migration and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross and other relevant international structures and organizations to immediately facilitate the speedy removal of Ukrainian citizens from the territory of the aggressor state and their placement on the territory controlled by the Ukrainian or on territories of democratic states that have launched powerful programs to support Ukrainian refugees", the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
