Russia forcibly passportizes deported Ukrainians - Denisova
Russia began forced passportization of Ukrainians taken out of the temporarily occupied territories
This was reported by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights Lyudmyla Denisova.
"The Russian Federation began issuing passports to citizens of Ukraine who were forcibly taken to different regions of the aggressor country. By intimidating the most vulnerable categories of people - women, people with disabilities and pensioners, the aggressor authorities received almost 14,000 applications for Russian citizenship from them and issued 12,000 passports", the statement said.
Such actions of the invader are aimed at continuing the forced integration of the captured population into the Russian political, economic and humanitarian space. Note that forced passportization is illegal and is not recognized in Ukraine.
"It is contrary to the principles and norms of international law and is a direct violation of the Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War", Denisova emphasized.
The Ombudswoman appealed to the UN Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violations during the Russian military invasion of Ukraine and the expert mission, created by the OSCE participating States in accordance with the Moscow Mechanism, to take into account these facts of human rights violations by the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
