More than 20 Russian generals died in Russian war against Ukraine — Japanese intelligence
More than 20 Russian generals are believed to have died in the war against Ukraine, negatively impacting Russian army capabilities
Nikkei reports this with reference to Japanese intelligence.
According to preliminary information, more than two dozen Russian generals died in Russia's war against Ukraine.
Retired General Kiyofumi Iwata, former chief of staff of Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force, believes the tally to be "unbelievably high". In his opinion, the death of a general weakens troop morale.
It is likely that Ukraine was able to target these commanders by tracking cell phone signals. According to another version, there may be informants in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions giving information to Ukraine.
In August 2022, British intelligence reported on 10 Russian generals who died in Ukraine.
