Syrian government refuses Russian ships access to port in Tartus
Russian ships have been unable to enter the Tartus port in Syria, where they have been stuck at outer anchorage for several days
A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, shared the information on national television.
"The situation in the Mediterranean is quite interesting. They (Russian ships - ed.) are still at sea. They have not been granted permission to enter the [Tartus] port… As of now, they’ve been stuck on the outer anchorage for several days and cannot enter the port," he stated, without specifying the number of vessels involved.
At the same time, the Militarnyi outlet, citing MarineTraffic data, reports that the ship Sparta, which Moscow uses to transport military equipment, has been unable to enter Tartus for 5 days.
"This puts the evacuation of Russian weapons and equipment from Syria in jeopardy. Russia’s only foreign naval base is located in Tartus. After the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the Russians brought a significant number of trucks with equipment here.," the report states.
