Volodymyr Omelyan, a major in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, diplomat and politician, has described the purpose of Donald Trump's Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg's visit to Ukraine

He said this on Espreso TV.

“Undoubtedly, there is a plan. And it is somewhat in line with our national plan and concept, if translated into literary language - leave us in peace. We just want Russia to leave us. And the Americans want Europe to leave them alone, too. And they have been dealing with the issues that concern them first and foremost. These are domestic policy and the national priorities that Trump and his administration see in the short term. Is it possible to integrate the components we need into this national American plan? Yes, of course, it is possible, but we need to work on it. As I understand it, Kellogg is arriving in Ukraine just before the Munich conference. Please correct me if I got the information wrong, but this is what I see in the media,” he said.

Volodymyr Omelyan believes that the purpose of Keith Kellogg's visit to Ukraine is to discuss his plan to end the war in Ukraine with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“And it probably looks like the Americans are just learning from their own mistakes, when on the eve of the great Russian invasion, there was a not entirely successful meeting between then Vice President Kamala Harris and the current President of Ukraine Zelensky. We have heard in various memoirs and public summaries of those who were present at this conversation that it clearly did not go well. Therefore, I think that Kellogg's goal is, in fact, to get Zelenskyy to understand the plan that Kellogg has already drawn up. And it is likely to form the basis of Trump's plan,” the politician noted.

In his opinion, if this really happens, it will be a great success for Ukraine.

“And I believe that if this happens, it will be a great success for Ukraine, because at least Kellogg is definitely more on our side than other members of the Trump team, where we hear sometimes such shocking statements, and mostly not very pleasant ones. If we can build this whole sequence correctly, a meeting with Kellogg or a conversation with him on the phone, public or not public. After that, there will still be a meeting with Vice President Vance on the Munich platform. And then we will somehow move forward, having a common position of the United States, Ukraine and Europe, so this is definitely a victory,” said Volodymyr Omelyan.

Otherwise, the politician believes that Ukraine needs to use the Munich conference to build regional ties with European countries.

“If we fail to do this, I think that the Munich event should be used to the maximum extent possible to build regional alliances in Europe. First of all, it should be Britain, it should be a new Germany after the elections, it should be a new France. And in this format, we can defend our national interests to the extent that we are able to do so today. And then a serious debriefing of the situation in Ukraine and then, I hope, the transformation of our country into a powerful player, at least in Eastern Europe. This is the short-term plan I would like to see. I really hope that our president is guided primarily by national interests, not personal ones: how to survive after the war,” said the Armed Forces major.
