161 combat clashes take place at frontline on Jan.9: Ukrainian troops stopped 42 attacks in Pokrovsk direction

On January 9, 161 clashes occurred on the frontline, with Ukrainian forces repelling 42 Russian troops’ attacks near Pokrovsk

Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported as of 8:00 a.m. 

“Yesterday, the Russian aggressors launched one missile attack on the Ukrainian positions and settlements using three missiles and 55 air strikes, dropping 76 glide bombs. In addition, they carried out more than 6,000 fire attacks, including 200 from multiple launch rocket systems, and used 2,408 'kamikaze' drones to attack,” the statement said.

The General Staff added that over the past day, the Ukrainian Defense Forces' aviation, missile forces and artillery hit six Russian troops and equipment concentration areas, two air defense facilities, a command post, and one UAV control point.

Frontline update

In the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian troops repelled two Russian troops' attacks in the vicinity of Starytsia and Vochansk.

In the Kupyansk direction, eight Russian attacks took place yesterday. Ukrainian defense forces repulsed Russian assaults near Zakhidne, Kucherivka, Nova Kruhliakivka, Petropavlivka and Zahryzove.

In the Lyman direction, the Russian military attacked 17 times. He tried to advance near Zelenyi Hai, Borivska Andriivka, Kopanky, Tverdokhlibove, Makiivka, Hrekivka and Ivanivka.

In the Siversk direction, the Russian invaders attacked Ukrainian positions once near Bilohorivka.

In the Kramatorsk direction, seven firefights were registered in the vicinity of Chasiv Yar and Stupochky.

In the Toretsk direction, the Russian forces carried out 12 attacks near Toretsk, Bila Hora and Shcherbynivka.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 42 assault and offensive actions of the aggressor in the areas of Baranivka, Myroliubivka, Sukhyi Yar, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Zelene, Zvirove, Novyi Trud, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Uspenivka, Novovasylivka, Novoandriivka and Novoielyzavetivka.

In the Kurakhove direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces defeated 29 attacks on Ukrainian troops' positions near Sribne, Andriivka, Petropavlivka, Kurakhove and Dachne.

In the Vremivka direction, the Russian troops conducted 11 offensives against the Ukrainian positions near Yantarne, Vremivka, Kostiantynopil and Rozlyv.

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Russian invaders stormed Ukrainian troops' positions three times without success.

In the operational zone in the Kursk region, the Ukrainian Defense Forces fought off 25 attacks by Russian invaders over the past day. In addition, they conducted 19 air strikes, using 31 guided aerial bombs, and fired 469 artillery rounds (including 19 from multiple rocket launchers) at Ukrainian troops' positions and localities.

The occupying forces did not conduct any assault operations at the Huliaipole and Orikhiv directions yesterday.

On the border with Belarus, no signs of Russian offensive groups were detected.

On the border with the Chernihiv and Sumy regions, the Russian military is actively using artillery and aviation near Ukrainian settlements.

  • The occupying Russian army lost 1,830 servicemen over the day of the war against Ukraine. Ukrainian Defense Forces also destroyed 32 armored vehicles, 3 air defense systems, and several other pieces of Russian equipment and weaponry.
