British Prime Minister Starmer to visit Kyiv in coming weeks
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to visit Kyiv in the coming weeks to discuss the possibility of deploying an international peacekeeping force in Ukraine after the end of hostilities
Bloomberg reports that Keir Starmer plans to visit Kyiv in the coming weeks as Europe ramps up preparations for the return of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to the White House.
The outlet stated that this will be Starmer's first visit to Ukraine since taking office six months ago. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the trip after negotiations with allies at Germany's Ramstein air base, though the specific date has yet to be determined.
Zelenskyy noted that the initiative to deploy peacekeeping forces was proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron.
"This initiative was started by Emmanuel Macron. The British look at it positively, but I will talk in detail with the prime minister about it at our meeting, it will take place," said Zelenskyy. "He will be visiting Ukraine, he will have a visit to Ukraine, and we will talk."
This week, Macron and Starmer also met for dinner at the government residence in Chequers. According to Starmer's office, they "reiterated their unwavering support" for Ukraine and discussed the importance of ensuring that the country is in "the strongest possible position in 2025."
