Zelenskyy in Italy meets PM Meloni and President Mattarella: Key topics discussed
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Italy for its strong support and discussed returning Ukrainian children taken by Russia and strengthening security cooperation
Zelenskyy reported on his meeting with Mattarella on Telegram on January 10.
"I thanked Italy for its unwavering support of Ukraine, its clear and principled stance on achieving a just and lasting peace, and the importance of close cooperation with international partners to achieve this goal," Ukraine's president wrote.
During the meeting, they discussed Ukraine's integration into the EU and NATO, as well as the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
"I expressed gratitude to Italy for caring for and supporting Ukrainian orphans currently residing in Italy due to the Russian war. Furthermore, I invited President Mattarella to visit Kyiv and look forward to continuing this strong partnership," Zelenskyy summarized.
A video of his meeting with PM Meloni was posted on the official YouTube channel of the President on January 9.
Later, Zelenskyy shared that the main topics of his conversation with Meloni included strengthening security, global events, and preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conference set to take place in Rome.
"I am deeply grateful to Italy and the Italian people for their unwavering support. Together, we can bring about a just peace and strengthen our collective positions," the President added.
Previously, Presidential Press Secretary Serhiy Nikiforov told RBC-Ukraine that Zelenskyy had scheduled a meeting with PM Giorgia Meloni on January 9, followed by a meeting with President Sergio Mattarella the next day.
Among the agenda topics were defense support for Ukraine, the Ukraine Recovery Conference to be held in Rome on July 10–11, Ukraine’s NATO membership, and G7 cooperation, including sanctions.
