On Friday, January 10, the Japanese government announced additional sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, also targeting North Korea and China
The Japan Times reported the information.
A total of 33 organizations and 12 individuals, including a North Korean citizen, were added to Japan's asset freeze list under its Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act. Additionally, 53 organizations from countries including Russia and China became subject to export bans and other measures.
Starting January 23, Japan will prohibit the export of 335 more items to Russia, including small motorcycles and components for specialized equipment like cranes.
The aim is to strengthen Japan’s response to North Korea’s support for Russia and Moscow's use of third countries to evade sanctions.
The additional measures "are intended to contribute to international efforts toward peace. Japan will continue to work with the international community, including G7 partners," stated Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi.
