Head of Ukraine in NATO NGO and member of the Atlantic Council, Yuriy Romaniuk, believes that Trump's team is starting to realize the wrong views and concepts regarding Russia's war against Ukraine

He shared his opinions on Espreso TV.

"Trump is not shaping his position on Ukraine; he is breaking it. The Financial Times published a far-reaching article stating that Trump’s entourage is starting to realize how wrong their views and concepts were regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine and their attitude toward Ukraine," noted Romaniuk.

According to the expert, Americans are currently changing their approach to Ukraine because they fear comparisons to the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. They are also concerned that Trump’s policy of rejecting Ukraine could lead to Russia's victory and its strengthening both on the continent and globally. This indicates that until now, they have not actively sought to support Ukraine.

"But the final version of Trump and the U.S. stance on Ukraine will be formed only after the first meeting between Putin and Trump. What they agree on, whether they will find common ground, or not - most likely, they are two very similar individuals, and their views on the world are absolutely the same. Unfortunately, there is a sad prediction that they might agree on many things," Romaniuk believes.

The head of Ukraine in NATO NGO also added that depending on the outcome of the meeting between Trump and Putin, it will become clear whether Ukraine will receive assistance, and to what extent. If no assistance is provided, the question will arise about how Ukraine will face pressure and attempts to force it to capitulate to Russia.

"Because Trump and Putin have already agreed on everything, they have already divided it all. Putin wants the revival of a bipolar world, which fully suits Trump. And then, not only for Ukraine, but also for Europe and the world, very pessimistic forecasts remain. Therefore, we need to wait until March, when this meeting will take place. Because today, Trump’s team has absolutely no perspective on the Russia-Ukraine war," emphasized Romaniuk.

  • Newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump stated that preparations are underway for his meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
