Russian drone fragments hit high-rise building in Kyiv, damaging dozens apartments

Russia attacked Ukraine with 72 Shahed strike drones, 33 of which were destroyed by the Defence Forces. Another 34 drones were lost locally

On the night of January 10, Russian forces launched Shahed attack drones to shell Ukraine. In the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, fragments of an enemy UAV hit a high-rise building.

At 2:00, UAVs approached Kyiv from the south. The city's military administration reported that air defenses were operating.

Around 2:30, it was reported that the fragments of an enemy UAV hit a high-rise building in Solomianskyi district.

‘There were no casualties. Windows and 6 cars were damaged. Services are working at the scene,’ the statement said.

Espreso correspondent Tatiana Holunova visited the site of the hit of the Russian drone in the Solomianskyi district of the capital. 

According to the concierge of the damaged building, Valentyna, the hit occurred at 02:08. 

‘Almost all the apartments facing the courtyard were damaged. About 50 apartments were damaged. The damage was as follows: windows on balconies and in rooms, in apartments. And on the top floor, of course, you need to see what happened there. A Shahed hit there... Everyone is alive, thank God, but people are very scared,’ the woman said.

Ukrainian defense forces shoot down 33 of 72 Russian drones

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, on the night of 10 January (from 8:30 p.m. on 9 January), Russia attacked with 72 Shaheds and various types of imitation drones from the directions of Millerovo, Oryol, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Air Force and Defense Forces.

As of 9:00 a.m., 33 Shahed attack UAVs and other types of drones were confirmed downed in Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytsky, Vinnytsia and Kherson regions.

‘Five UAV hits were recorded in the frontline area in the north of Chernihiv region, a civilian was wounded. In Kyiv region, a damaged UAV fell on a multi-storey building, damaging the building and two dozen cars. Preliminarily, there were no casualties,’ the Air Force said.

34 Russian imitator drones were lost locally (without negative consequences), one of which flew towards Russia.
