German Bundestag probes Elon Musk’s conversation with AfD’s Alice Weidel
The German Bundestag is investigating whether a conversation between billionaire Elon Musk and far-right AfD leader Alice Weidel involved an illegal party donation
DW reported the information.
The Bundestag has initiated an investigation into a conversation due to Elon Musk's support for the far-right AfD, particularly concerning an audio discussion on the X platform with its leader and candidate for Germany's chancellor, Alice Weidel. The administration claims that the purpose of the investigation is to determine whether the conversation was aimed at facilitating an illegal party donation.
At the same time, the non-governmental organization LobbyControl previously stated that the public conversation between Musk and Weidel could be considered "political advertising" and an "illegal party donation."
Background
On December 7, the German far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) nominated its co-leader Alice Weidel as a candidate for chancellor.
On December 19, Alice Weidel expressed support for Germany's withdrawal from the European Union.
Subsequently, Elon Musk made a statement in support of the German right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany (AfD), prompting a response from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
On January 9, American billionaire Elon Musk hosted a live discussion on his X platform with Alice Weidel, the AfD's candidate for Germany's chancellor.
During the January 9 conversation, Politico reported that Weidel spoke about the "leftist and socialist" agenda in Germany's education system. Musk responded, "It sounds like the woke mind virus has infected Germany quite badly." The outlet noted that the discussion ranged from solar energy to Germany's bureaucracy in business.
