Food prices in the world have updated their historical maximum due to the war in Ukraine - food association at the UN
In March, world food prices rose by 12.6% compared to February and reached a new historical high since 1990
This was reported by the Food and Agriculture Association of the United Nations (FAO), writes Agravery.
"In March 2022, the average value of the world food price index was 159.3 points, which was 17.9 points (12.6%) higher than its February value and reached the highest level for the entire period of observation (since 1990)", the message says.
As the FAO explained, the rise in prices was caused by a rapid rise in the cost of wheat and feed grains, which was caused by Russia's military actions in Ukraine and interruptions in supplies mainly from Ukraine.
The average value of the grain price index increased by 17.1% in March compared to February and amounted to 170.1 points. The average price index for vegetable oils increased by 23.2% to 46.9 points and once again reached a record high.
