British intelligence predicts "elections" results in occupied parts of Ukraine
Russia has initiated pseudo-elections for the occupying authorities in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories, with the United Russia party anticipated to secure the majority of votes
The UK Ministry of Defenсe reported the information.
It notes that the so-called “elections” in the occupied regions of Ukraine will be held in parallel with the elections in Russia, on September 8 to 10. They have already begun in Zaporizhzhia and Mariupol.
Among over a thousand candidates who have applied, there are not enough qualified and experienced ones. There are also no independent candidates who do not have membership in parties supported by the Kremlin, which indicates that "these [elections] will not be free or fair." In addition, according to the National Resistance Center, the occupying authorities have significantly overestimated the number of voters on the electoral lists.
"Kremlin polls indicate United Russia, the dominant political party in the Russian Federation, is predicted to gain 80 per cent of the vote in the four occupied regions. The United Russia party will likely command the majority of seats in an attempt to secure the Kremlin's hold and influence over the occupied regions," the statement said.
Pseudo-elections in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories
On August 31, the Russian forces began holding so-called elections to pseudo-local councils and "legislative bodies" in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
On August 29, Ukrainian partisans in the temporarily occupied Nova Kakhovka destroyed the election regional headquarters of United Russia.
Also, the Security Service of Ukraine targeted collaborators who were going to hold sham elections in the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region with drones.
In addition, the Security Service has identified more than 3,500 collaborators and their Russian "curators" involved in the organization of illegal voting in the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
European Commission spokesperson Peter Stano issued a statement condemning Russia's "elections" in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
Using UAVs, the Defense Forces distributed leaflets over the temporarily occupied territories calling for ignoring the Russian sham elections, which are to officially begin on September 8.
On September 4, the National Resistance Center stated that Russian-installed authorities in the temporarily occupied territories could not find a sufficient number of "public observers" among the locals for the so-called elections, so they invited them from Russia.
Meanwhile, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, said that among the candidates for representative pseudo-bodies in the temporarily occupied territories are Russian military personnel who participated in the invasion of Ukraine, where they killed and tortured people.
