White House: Biden would like to visit Ukraine, not now though
US President Joe Biden is willing to visit Ukraine, but now is not the right moment, White House says
This was stated in a CNN interview with the spokesman of the National Security Council of the White House, John Kirby.
"The president would certainly be willing to do that at the appropriate time. But we’re not at that point right now," the White House representative noted.
He also emphasized that Joe Biden is in "close contact" with Zelenskyy, and they speak "quite frequently."
"Again, our focus is on making sure that we are arming Ukraine," added Kirby.
Responding to the question about when Ukraine will be able to receive American Abrams tanks, and whether it will happen before the end of this year, the representative of the White House noted that he would not like to make specific predictions. He also added that it would take "many months." What is more important, according to him, is that the German Leopard tanks will arrive in Ukraine in a shorter time.
Kirby also commented on Ukraine's request for fighter jets.
"I don't have any announcements or anything specific to say about future packages," the White House representative said.
He stated that the United States is constantly asking the Ukrainian side about the current needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In this context, he emphasized that Washington, together with its allies strives to do everything possible to support Ukraine.
