In Ukraine, almost 500 settlements without power due to weather, hostilities and technological failures
Ukraine involves emergency assistance from Europe for the second day in a row because of the situation in the power system
The press services of Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy and power company Ukrenergo reported the information..
In the Donetsk region, 56 settlements (22,500 consumers) have no power due to Russian shelling. At the same time, over the day, power companies supplied electricity to 11 settlements (22,700 consumers) that had been cut off earlier.
In the Zaporizhzhia region, 63 settlements (about 26,000 consumers) experience power outages due to hostilities.
In the Sumy region, 56 settlements (2,500 consumers) experience power outages as a result of shelling.
In the Kharkiv region, 68 settlements (16,200 consumers) have no power supply. Some consumers in Kharkiv city and three settlements were cut off from power supply yesterday.
In Kherson, 4,600 customers have no power supply. In the region, 45 settlements (over 26,000 metering points) experience power outages.
In the Chernihiv region, 19 settlements (1,600 metering points) remain without power supply as a result of hostilities.
Power outages due to bad weather and technological disruptions
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, 13 settlements (2,000 consumers) experience power outages due to bad weather.
In the Zaporizhzhia region, 15 settlements (5,000 consumers) remain without electricity supply due to technical reasons.
As of this morning, about 200 customers in the Mykolaiv region have no power supply due to the weather. Work is underway to restore power supply.
In the Chernihiv region, 2 settlements are cut off for technical reasons.
Consumption and generation
"Yesterday, on December 7, the power system recorded a record high level of consumption for this heating season in the morning. The daily maximum consumption yesterday was 4% higher than the corresponding figure for December 6. This morning, Ukrenergo's dispatch center again records a high level of consumption, which is almost equal to yesterday's record," the company said.
They urged Ukrainians to consume electricity sparingly.
Generation cannot cover the needs of consumers due to the repair of thermal power plant equipment and dense cloud cover, which prevents the full operation of solar power plants.
"There are currently no spare capacities at the power plants. One of the thermal power plants in the eastern region has been damaged once again as a result of systematic and prolonged shelling. In another region, one of the power units was put under emergency repair due to equipment failures. Repair works are underway at some other units of thermal power plants, and solar power plants cannot operate at their maximum capacity due to dense cloud cover across the country," Ukrenergo noted.
The company said that on December 8, it will be forced to use emergency assistance from Romania and Poland again from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm with a capacity of 400 MW. At the same time, no consumption limits have been introduced and no outages are planned.
Imports and exports
There were no electricity exports on Friday.
"Electricity is imported in the morning and evening hours from Slovakia, Romania, and Moldova. The total volume is 2,193 MWh with a maximum capacity of up to 589 MW in some hours," Ukrenergo said.
