Victory Plan should have centered on granting Ukraine strategic partnership outside NATO - military expert
Military expert Dmytro Sniehyrov has commented on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Victory Plan
He spoke about this on the Espreso TV channel.
“I was surprised by the formulation in the Victory Plan that Putin must see that his geopolitical calculations are losing, and Russians must feel that their tsar has lost geopolitically. And if they don't feel that way, why was it included in the plan at all? How will the Russians feel that Putin is losing if there is now progress on all fronts? The situation is threatening along the entire length of the Russian-Ukrainian front, not just in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions, as reported by numerous “useful” Ukrainian experts. Therefore, the first point of the plan is unrealizable,” Sniehyriov said.
Today, Russia is creating threat and escalation zones in three countries, deliberately diverting the world's attention from Ukraine. And these countries are key and strategic partners outside the NATO bloc, it is an official status, he noted.
“The second point of the Plan is defense. It is about bringing Ukrainian air defense to a level sufficient to protect our cities and forces from Russian missiles. But Ukraine's territory is the largest in Europe. It is nonsense to say that we have to create a short-, medium-, and long-range air defense system from scratch at the expense of our Western partners, knowing full well the capabilities of their military-industrial complex and external challenges, such as the escalating situation near Taiwan, on the Korean Peninsula, and in the Middle East. Why does Ukraine need all these points, if one was enough - granting Ukraine the status of a strategic partner outside the NATO bloc,” Sniehyriov added.
According to the military expert, this status provides for military and technical support for 10 years.
“An agreement is signed, then prolonged, and no administration can cancel it. This is the experience of the US treaties with Taiwan, Israel and Seoul. It provides for macroeconomic assistance, it is what is in the victory plan, and most importantly, the exchange of military technologies. Then Ukraine is positioned as a strategic partner, but without being tied to direct NATO membership, because joining NATO is a collective decision. If Hungary or Slovakia veto this process, then joining NATO is out of the question in the long or short term. We had to come up with one point, which includes all the provisions of the five points of the Victory Plan,” he summarized.
On Wednesday, October 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared the details of the five points of the Victory Plan in the parliament.
