Russia shells Sumy region, killing 59-year-old civilian
On Thursday, December 26, the occupying Russian army carried out heavy shelling of the border areas of the Sumy region, resulting in the death of a 59-year-old civilian
This was reported by the press service of the Sumy Prosecutor's Office.
According to the report, the shelling came from Russian territory.
"According to the investigation, on December 26, 2024, throughout the day, using methods of warfare prohibited by international law, the occupying Russian forces shelled border communities of the Sumy region from the territory of the Russian Federation using various types of weapons," the statement reads.
"Due to artillery shelling of the village of Uhroidy in the Krasnopillia community of the Sumy district at about 5:00 p.m., a private house caught fire. A 59-year-old man was inside. The property was destroyed, and the owner died," the Prosecutor's Office added.
A criminal case has been opened for violating the laws and customs of war, which resulted in the death of a person.
Earlier in the day, the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported attacks with guided bombs and drones, urging residents to seek shelter.
"The sounds of explosions from these attacks can be heard even in Sumy," the statement read.
