No assault on Kherson: enemy targets islands on Dnipro River instead
Ukrainian forces repel Russian attempts to land on Kherson region islands, as drones, artillery, and aviation remain a key threat to the city
There are currently no plans for a Russian offensive on Kherson. The enemy has a different objective, according to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.
"In the Kherson region, Russian forces are attempting amphibious operations on the islands. Our Defense Forces are effectively destroying them, and Russia is suffering losses. Meanwhile, their propagandists are spreading fear about an attack on the city of Kherson itself, which is not happening," he wrote.
According to him, the enemy’s main goal is to try to land forces on specific parts of the islands using boats. However, the Ukrainian army is fully prepared for this, Kovalenko stressed.
He also highlighted that drones, artillery, and aviation remain a threat to Kherson.
- On December 20, Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups (SRGs) attempted to advance toward Kherson.
- Later, Serhiy Zgurets, director of the Defense Express information and consulting company, noted that there is no significant threat to Kherson at the moment. The enemy is only trying to establish positions on the islands and conduct assaults across the Dnipro.
