Russia ready for ‘consultations on Ukraine’ with Trump administration, says FM
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia is ready for "consultations on Ukraine" with Donald Trump's administration, expressing hope that the U.S. will "delve into the root causes of the conflict"
The Russian service "Interfax" reported Lavrov's statement.
"We are always ready for consultations, ready once again - if someone does not understand our repeatedly and clearly stated position - to confirm: we are open to any negotiations, provided they address the essence, the root causes, and the principles outlined by President Putin in June this year," Lavrov said.
According to him, statements by Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, suggesting that the Minsk agreements were a failed attempt at resolution, indicate that "he still needs to delve deeper into the Ukrainian dossier."
"Apparently, Mr. Kellogg needs to look into this more thoroughly. The Minsk agreements were not just an attempt; they were a decision by the UN Security Council that was trampled upon," Lavrov added.
- On December 26, Sergey Lavrov also stated that a ceasefire in Ukraine is a "dead end" and that Moscow requires "final legal agreements" for its security.
