Biden directs Pentagon to step up aid to Ukraine after Russia's Christmas attack
After Russia's massive attack on Christmas day, U.S. President Joe Biden instructed the Pentagon to further boost aid to Ukraine
This is stated on the White House website.
Biden recalled that Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles and drones in the early hours of Christmas, targeting Ukrainian cities and critical energy infrastructure. He emphasized that with this attack, Russia sought “to cut off the Ukrainian people's access to heat and electricity during the winter and to jeopardize the security of its grid.”
“Let me be clear: the Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and safety, and the United States and the international community must continue to stand with Ukraine until it triumphs over Russia’s aggression,” the report says.
Biden pointed out that the U.S. has provided Ukraine with hundreds of air defense missiles in recent months. According to him, “more are on the way.”
“I have directed the Department of Defense to continue its surge of weapons deliveries to Ukraine, and the United States will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen Ukraine’s position in its defense against Russian forces,” Biden emphasized.
- On the afternoon of December 24 and on Christmas Eve, December 25, the Russian army launched Shahed-type attack drones and missiles against Ukraine. One person was killed in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and people were injured in Kharkiv.
