Thailand accepts Russia's invitation to become BRICS partner
Thailand has agreed to Russia's invitation to join as a BRICS partner country, believing the move will boost trade, attract investment, and enhance food and energy security

Thailand's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub shared the information, according to the Bangkok Post.
On December 24, the Cabinet of Ministers held a meeting at which it was decided that Thailand would respond positively to this invitation.
At the same time, Thailand's Foreign Minister sent a letter to Russia's Foreign Minister, in which he agreed to Thailand's joining the BRICS as a partner country.
According to him, membership in BRICS will benefit Thailand by promoting trade, investment, food and energy security. It will also help enhance Thailand's role in promoting international cooperation and multilateralism, the ministry said.
- In January, five new countries - Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, and the UAE - officially joined and became full members of the interstate association called BRICS.
- On May 28, the Thai government approved a draft letter of intent to join the BRICS bloc.
