Abhorrent Russia’s brutalization of Ukrainians: EU condemns Russian executions of Ukrainian POWs
The High Representative of the European Union has condemned the shooting of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russia and called it a abhorrent example brutalization
The EU Diplomatic Service reports.
“The European Union strongly condemns these killings, which are another abhorrent example of Russia’s brutalization of the Ukrainian people. These cases are appalling and represent grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions,” the statement says.
In addition, they confirmed that 177 prisoners of war have died in Russian captivity since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
It is noted that the executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war show Russia's constant and systematic disregard for international law, including international humanitarian law.
“That Russian public figures publicly call for the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war, and glorify these executions, calling for more, exposes yet again the real nature of the regime in the Kremlin,” the EU added.
Ukraine's Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin said that up to 90% of Ukrainian soldiers were subjected to torture, sexual violence or other forms of inhuman treatment in Russian captivity.
