Air-to-ground missiles in US aid package are notable point - Defense Express
Oleh Katkov, military expert, editor-in-chief of Defense Express, believes that the conversion of JSOW glide bombs into cruise missiles will allow Ukraine to strike at Russia
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
‘The aid package from the United States, which was announced on October 16, again contains an interesting point. It refers to an item called ‘air-to-ground missiles’, but it did not specify what kind of missiles. The fact is that this term was first used, apparently, for the transfer of JSOW glide bombs, the meaning of which was to be transformed into long-range cruise missiles,’ commented the editor-in-chief of Defense Express.
According to him, it is hoped that the JSOWs being transferred to Ukraine for the second time will be converted into JSOW-ERs, as this technology is known. Ukraine can convert JSOW, and this has already been done in the US.
‘At the same time, this scenario allows us to bypass the ‘red line’ that Washington has drawn for itself regarding the non-provision of JASSM missiles and permission to strike at the territory of the Russian Federation. My personal assumption is that we will get our own cruise missile by converting the JSOW. Accordingly, Ukraine will use such a missile wherever and however it wants. Perhaps this is an elegant way for the US to avoid the ‘red lines’ it has drawn for itself,’ Oleh Katkov concluded.
- On October 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his American counterpart Joe Biden had a conversation, after which the US announced a new military aid package to Kyiv worth $425 million.
