Ukraine won't be invited to join NATO in near future - U.S. Ambassador
NATO has no plans to invite Ukraine to join the Alliance in the near future
U.S. Ambassador to NATO Julianne Smith said this during a briefing before the meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, hromadske reports.
"NATO's position on Ukraine's future membership is very clear. We stated this summer at the 75th anniversary NATO Summit in Washington that Ukraine is on an irreversible path to membership and will become a member of the Alliance. We are not at a point now where the Alliance is discussing extending an invitation to Ukraine in the short term," she said.
She also assured that NATO and Kyiv are working to ensure that Ukraine continues to move toward membership in the Alliance.
On October 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared the details of the five points of the Victory Plan in the parliament. The first point of victory is the invitation of Ukraine to join NATO.
Ukraine's ambassador to NATO, Natalia Galibarenko, said that Ukraine wants to receive an invitation to join NATO before U.S. President Joe Biden leaves the White House.
