Ukraine wants NATO invitation before Biden leaves office - Ambassador
Ukraine wants to be invited to join NATO before U.S. President Joe Biden leaves the White House
Ukraine's Ambassador to NATO Natalia Galibarenko said this, Reuters reports.
"Our idea is that giving Ukraine (an) invitation at this moment is a political signal," Natalia Galibarenko, Kyiv's ambassador to NATO, told Reuters.
According to her, the invitation will remove the bone of contention between Kyiv and Moscow.
"If we say that the invitation is there, for the Russian Federation, it would be like a final verdict – so that's it, so you cannot raise the stakes using this topic anymore," Galibarenko said.
Natalia Galibarenko also noted that Kyiv doesn't insist on the immediate start of membership negotiations, but an official invitation now would send a powerful signal.
When asked when Ukraine would like to receive an invitation, she replied: “The sooner the better.”
On October 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared the details of the five points of the Victory Plan in the parliament. The first point of victory is the invitation of Ukraine to join NATO.
