Russia launches 18 attacks on Ukraine ahead of UN Security Council meetings - Ambassador
Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN Serhii Kyslytsia says that Russia launched at least 18 missile strikes on Ukraine before calling a UN Security Council meeting
Ukrinform reports.
"We have already pointed out to the Council the clear correlation between the timing of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and the Security Council meetings initiated by Russia, like today. This correlation has occurred in at least 18 instances," emphasized Kyslytsia.
He provided specific dates of meetings initiated by the Kremlin and Russian missile strikes on Ukraine's energy and other civilian infrastructure. This list covers the period from April 11 to December 20, 2024.
Kyslytsia recalled that, ahead of these events, Putin called for a "high-tech duel" between Russia and Western countries, claiming that Russia would strike Ukraine's capital with medium-range ballistic missiles, while Western missile defense systems would attempt to protect it.
"Obviously, even Putin's representative at the UN today decided not to mention this crazy idea because he understands it belongs more in a psychiatric hospital than in the Security Council," the Ukrainian diplomat noted.
He emphasized that Ukraine has never sought war and, more than any other country, wants it to end.
"To force Russia to end its aggression, a powerful and effective international coalition of states that share the principles of comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the Peace Formula and the UN Charter is needed," stated Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN.
Kyslytsia called on the UN Security Council to focus on eliminating the threats posed by Russia's aggressive neo-imperialism and ensuring the prosecution of war criminals.
- According to UN estimates, over 12,340 civilians were killed in Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression between February 24, 2022, and November 30, 2024.
