Ukraine signs security agreement with Greece: Athens to help train F-16 pilots
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis signed a bilateral security cooperation agreement in Brussels on October 17, under which Athens will help Kyiv train pilots and technicians for F-16 fighter jets
The Office of the President reported this.
The agreement provides for economic partnership, support for sanctions against Russia, security cooperation and cooperation between Greece and Ukraine in the fields of culture, education, and the arts.
‘With this agreement, the Hellenic Republic confirms its readiness to continue meeting Ukraine’s most urgent defense needs. Together with its partners, Greece will provide additional resources to accelerate F-16 training for Ukrainian pilots and technicians.,’ the statement said.
At the same time, the document commits Athens to participate in Ukraine's reconstruction, and the state supports Ukraine's Formula for Peace and future membership in the EU and NATO.
Ukraine has so far signed 27 bilateral security agreements: with the UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Japan, the US, the EU, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Luxembourg, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Ireland, and Greece.
- In March of this year, Greece joined the coalition for demining Ukraine, which was established as part of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
